Now if this is the case it is not the end of the world, it can be fixed. First, you need to find out if it actually is the hard drive that is corrupted. Try removing the hard drive while the console is switched off and leave it out for a few days.
NOTE: Before proceeding with the next step it is recommended that you transfer all your data to a memory unit or you will lose most if not all of your save games, demos, music, etc… To format your hard drive simply insert the hard drive while the console is off and go into the system menu. I'm having problems aswell with the slim. I've tried every possible method of sorting it; clearing cache, moving data to a new hard drive, giving it and the PSU more ventilation ect. I have 2 xbox slims in the household, mine and my brothers It never freezes on the dashboard, but when playing games on either disc or hard drive, it'll freeze regardless! Mine started doing the same thing 3 days ago. I have the gears of war 2 edition Xbox slim. It randomly freezes all the time. Sometimes while its loading my home screen when it is barely turned on or in the middle of games.
I tried clearing the cache, tried taking out the hard drive. Tried formatting the hard drive and still same results. I have it in a well ventilated area with nothing blocking it but since its been more than a year, it's out of warranty.
