So in this example, if you want to play a note in the 8th Fret, that note will be on note C , which is a step after the note B in the 7th Fret.
All white dots are not the same. Some have different sizes and shapes. Some even have custom inlays such as shark-fin or bird-wings designs instead of the usual dots.
Famous guitarists also started to put their signature to represent the 12th fret marker for a more personal touch. Fret markers can also be made with different materials, including plastic, wood, clay, metals, and stones. You may notice that some frets have double dots instead of a single dot. Some guitars may have more than one of these depending on the number of frets they have. So why is this the case? Single dots are the most common ones as you can find them at several different frets. Unlike the single white dots, double white dots are more uncommon. In most guitars, double dots will be only on one Fret, usually the 12th Fret. Some guitars with a longer neck, however, will also have this on the 24th Fret. The primary purpose is pretty much the same: to provide a visual reference to the player.
However, the Fret with the double dots also indicates the octave. Octave is basically the same note as the open string, having a higher pitch. This information is useful for new players.
